1. Are you really homeless?
Not anymore. I was coerced by threat of physical violence into leaving my apartment in the middle of eviction procedings on March 15th 2007. Since then I have lived in a youth hostel, a shelter, and at a friend’s house. Now I have a more permanent living arrangement.
2. Why are you asking for donations?
I am not asking for donations anymore. I now have the tools I need to stand on my own two feet.
3. Do you realize you’re not the only one who struggles?
Yes.
4. Do you realize it’s your own fault?
Yes.
5. Are you on drugs or mentally ill?
No, I am not on drugs. However, I believe there is a strong chance that I am gifted with a functional and creative form of manic depression. I wouldn’t trade the condition for anything in the world. I find it tragicomically ironic that people offer legal drugs to mentally ill people. “Here, take this, it’ll finish you off.” No thanks. I would quite rather harness the power of my unique gifts in my quest for the beautiful.
6. Why are you whining?
I challenge anyone here to find one single instance of whining. Here at Homeless in New Haven, I strive to explain the facts. Sometimes it involves admitting that I cried at some point.
7. What makes you so special?
I believe I have a unique perspective on homelessness, and the ability to bring that experience to you, the reader. I am privy to two worlds: the Underground and the Overground. I aim to bridge them.
8. What’s with all the talk of God? Are you a Christian?
Hardship – I mean real hardship – often brings a feeling of spiritual gratitude for just being alive. No, I am not a Christian. No, I do not resent Christians. I just feel that the universe is perfect as it is, in all its beauty and ugliness. I use the phrase “God bless you” to express those feelings and to wish good things for you in a solid and tangible way.
9. Can I hire you to write or edit something?
Yes, please. Send me an email at qualitywritingprofessional@inbox.com.
10. Instead of blogging, why not just write a book?
I just might.
11. Can I ask you a question you didn’t list here?
Of course. Send me an e-mail at qualitywritingprofessional@inbox.com.
